JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO, Texas –
The Medical Education and Training Campus, or METC, current operations section, in conjunction with a security response team from the 502nd Air Base Wing, conducted an active shooter/lockdown drill in and around the vicinity of Smith Hall and Sebban Hall at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston Jan. 18.
Smith Hall in particular was the scene of an armed” intruder roaming the halls and trying to open doors while shouting and firing a simulated weapon that produced authentic-sounding “gunfire.” He was able to get inside an unlocked laboratory that turned out to be empty.
The security team was then able to successfully intercept and apprehend the perpetrator, calling an end to the exercise.
