Biomedical Equipment Technician

 

Vision is to be recognized as the world renowned "Center of Excellence" for Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) training.

The instructional design for this program is group lockstep and provides initial skills training for BMET personnel to include clinical applications, operation, inspection, maintenance, and modification of a wide variety of biomedical equipment systems.

The program consists of a combination of teaching methods: lecture (didactic), demonstration, interactive courseware, and performance. BMET courses 101 and 102 contain basic electronic principles necessary to complete the remainder of the program. BMET courses 103 through 112 contain in-depth medical equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.

BMET course 113F contains service specific training for the Air Force. BMET course 113A contains service specific training for the Army. BMET course 113N contains service specific training for the Navy.

Special Information:
Navy students attend five (5) additional courses contained within five (5) independent METC programs to obtain the 8410 Navy Enlisted Classification (NEC) as part of the Biomedical Equipment Maintenance Technician training program (B-326-1000). Program descriptions, task correlations, instructional methods and reference/equipment lists are disclosed in the respective curriculum documentation:

Air Force

Army


Submit an application for attendance to a functional course through local command channels to the Army Advanced Course Liaison (AMEDD C&S) COMM 210-221-6263. using either DA 3838 (military applicants) or DD 1556 (DA Civilian applicants) . Consider verifying seat availability through the Army Training Resource Requirements System (ATRRS), An alternate POC is the BMET Army Service Lead (dha.jbsa.education-trng-dir.mbx.metc-bmet-cs-staff@mail.mil) .
ARMY BMET TDY STUDENT ORIENTATION
ALL DESIRING TO ATTEND FUNCTIONAL COURSES MUST BE COUNSELED IN WRITING PRIOR TO ATTENDING.

The following should be on the DA 3838 :

"INDIVIDUAL HAS BEEN COUNSELED, IN WRITING, ON HIS/HER INTENT AS WELL AS COMMITMENT TO COMPLETE THE COURSE. INDIVIDUAL HAS ALSO BEEN COUNSELED ON POSSIBLE ACTIONS IF HE/SHE VOLUNTARILY DROPS THE COURSE OR FAILS TO COMPLETE THE COURSE."

The completed (signed) application form or request will be processed upon receipt. You will be subsequently entered into ATRRS.

Please be aware that you will receive a prorated meal rate of approx 44.00 a day during the week as the DFAC is available. Rental car /in and around mileage must be authorized and paid through your unit.

Army National Guard and Reservist


USAR Soldiers will need to request training through their unit ATRRS Manager. Their unit ATRRS Manager will need to correspond with the USAR Quota Manager. The USAR Quota Manger will need to correspond with the Medical Education & Training Campus(METC) and AMEDDC&S for course schedules and availability.

Active duty military and DA civilians have priority when requesting a functional course. US Army Reserves and National Guard are slotted on a space available basis.

Navy


Navy personnel will need to submit request via regular mail or email to the METC registrar (dha.jbsa.education-trng-dir.mbx.metc-registrar@mail.mil). The information specific to the Army 3838 form does not apply to Navy applicants.

Navy applicants will simply have to ensure that their command is providing TDY funding for travel and lodging for the scope of the course. The registrar has not stated this as a requirement for a reservation, however, I feel it should be included as a statement under the Navy section.

How to Apply For Instructor Duty:


Specific information provided below for Army and US Air Force personnel. Navy Personnel need to contact their Detailer for information.


ARMY


1. Ensure you meet the qualifications listed below from AR 614-200 Enlisted Assignments and Utilization Management:

6–9. Selection criteria:

The initial selection criteria for instructor duty is as follows:

a. Be a high school graduate or possess the GED equivalent.

b. Have no personal habits or character traits that are questionable from a security standpoint, such as financial irresponsibility, foreign holdings or interest, heavy drinking, drug abuse, gambling, emotional instability, and so forth. Concerning alcohol and drug abuse, persons declared rehabilitation successes under the ADAPC Program should not be included.

c. Possess mature judgment and initiative.

d. Have served at least three years of active Federal service in any branch of the Armed Forces.

e. Have three years time remaining in-service upon arrival at assignment or be able to reenlist or extend to meet the requirement.

f. Have a security clearance consistent with that required to attend the requisite instructor course.

g. Meet minimum reading grade level (RGL) and language grade level (LGL) (measured by Test of Adult Basic Education (see AR 351–1)) required for attendance to the requisite instructor course.

h. Display good military bearing.

i. Meet the body composition requirements in AR 600–9.

j. Be able to pass the Army physical fitness test (APFT).

k. Be fully qualified in the MOS for which instructor duty is desired and have at least one year of experience in that MOS.

l. Have recently held a leadership assignment.

m. Have a demonstrated ability to be an instructor.

6–12. Uniformed service school instructors

a. In addition to the initial selection criteria in paragraph 6–9, soldiers must:

(1) Be SSG or above; however, exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis to secure the best qualified instructors available.
(2) Possess “1” under “S” and “1” or “2” under “E” of physical profile.
(3) Be equal in grade to the level of students that will attend the course.
(4) Be graduates of the course they will instruct.

b. Assignment of instructors at joint or interservice schools will be coordinated with the host service school.

AIR FORCE


Job Title: AETC Technical Training Instructor Qualifications:

1. Grade E-4 and above with skill level commensurate with grade.

2. Be PCS eligible IAW AFI 36-2110, Military Assignments.

3. Minimum physical profile of 121121.

4. Overall rating of 3 or higher on last five performance reports.

5. Ability to obtain 48 months retainability as of the reporting month

This is a 4-year controlled tour.

6. CCAF degree or within one year of completion (51 SH).

Application Requirements: Reference SPECAT Guide, ITEM: 1

1. Copies of last five performance reports.

2. Copy of AF Form 422 with current PHULES, height and weight and the following statement:
“Applicants medical records have been reviewed and there is no history of alcohol/drug abuse. Individual is able to endure long periods of standing on a daily basis and has a good speaking voice with no speech impediment”.

3. Letter of recommendation from commander. Commander’s letter must contain the following statements:

a. “The applicant’s records have been screened and found to conform with Air Force Policy on Formal Training Course Instructors which prohibits perpetrators of sexual harassment and unlawful discrimination from instructing. The applicant’s records do not reflect any incidents of sexual harassment or any information that would preclude selection”.

b. “I have interviewed the applicant and in my opinion they are qualified for the assignment they have requested”.
