In honor of Radiologic Technology Week, the multi-service Radiologic Technologist program at the Medical Education and Training Campus celebrated with a barbeque lunch for its students, instructors, and staff, followed by the reading of a proclamation signed by San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg Nov. 10.

Air Force Staff Sgt. Moneque English, an instructor in the Medical Education and Training Campus Radiologic Technologist program, instructs students on how to use a portable x-ray machine. English was recognized for her contributions to the Columbus State University track and field and cross-country teams by being inducted into the school's athletic hall of fame during a ceremony Oct. 1, 2022.

METC Student Awarded Navy and Marine Corps Medal

Rear Adm. Cynthia Kuehner, commander of Naval Medical Forces Support Command, presnets Hospital Corpsman William T. Ericson the Navy and Marine Corps Medal in recognition for acts of non-combat heroism during a ceremony recently at the Navy Medicine Training Support Center. While off-duty hiking at the Cabrillo National Monument on May 2, 2021, Ericson observed an adrift vessel with more than 30 distressed passengers near the rocky shoreline. As the vessel was dashed against boulders in six-foot seas, multiple people abandoned the boat in the 60-degree water. (US Navy Photo)

Mr. Andy Sivilaythong Remembered in HCB Classroom Dedication

A classroom in the Medical Education and Training Campus Navy Hospital Corpsman Basic program was dedicated in honor of Mr. Andy Sivilaythong, a long-time instructor in the program who passed away in early 2022. His sister, Marry Sivilaythong, helped unveil the plaque in honor of her brother.

METC Medical Lab instructor recognized for saving a life

Navy Lt. Brian Melin, Navy Service Lead in the joint Army/Navy Medical Laboratory Technician program at the Medical Education and Training Campus, took immediate action when he spotted a referee at his daughter's volleyball tournament on the ground and unresponsive with no pulse. Melin performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation for approximately ten minutes until the referee regained a heartbeat. For his selfless, lifesaving actions, Melin was awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal presented to him by Navy Capt. Thomas Herzig, former METC Commandant.

In a first for the Medical Education and Training Campus’ (METC) Pharmacy Technician program, thirty-one Army, Air Force and Coast Guard students jointly conducted a three-day, field training exercise on JBSA-Camp Bullis, Texas July 12-15.

METC DMS Instructor Earns ARDMS Credential

Petty Officer (Corpsman) 2nd Class Kristin Rupkus, an ultrasound instructor in the joint Air Force/Navy Diagnostic Medical Sonographers Technologist program at the Medical Education and Training Campus on Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, Texas, passed the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers credentialing exam with a specialty in abdominal sonography in April 2022, becoming the first Navy graduate of the METC DMS program to challenge and pass the registry and earn the ARDMS credential.
