METC Instructor Earns Master Instructor Badge

By Lisa Braun, Medical Education and Training Campus Public Affairs Medical Education and Training Campus

Sgt. 1st Class Troy Mata, instructor and service lead for the Medical Education and Training Campus Army Dental Specialist Program, was presented with the Army Master Instructor Badge August 10.

Master instructor is the Army’s highest instructor level. To become a master instructor, Soldiers must serve as a senior instructor a minimum of 24 months and successfully teach at least 200 hours after the master instructor nomination packet is submitted.  A Master Instructor Selection Board is convened, culminating with an oral examination of the candidate’s knowledge and application of the instructor competencies.

With fewer than 100 master instructors across the Army, SFC Mata is one of only two U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence personnel to earn the Master distinction, and the only Master Instructor Badge holder currently on the installation.
